About Sue Tait

"A Posy" was awarded the Anne Redpath prize at Visual Arts Scotland RSA 2010
I was born in Edinburgh but lived in England and Botswana for many years where I ran a "mud hut" knitting business in a little village outside Gaborone. Following my return to Scotland I dipped in and out of various professions before discovering painting at a dreamwork and art weekend workshop in Plockton. I very quickly got totally hooked and have been studying art since.

I currently live and work in Edinburgh where I have a studio at Coburg House. I finished a 2 year diploma in painting at the Leith School of Art where I learnt how to work with a variety of materials, including many techniques rarely used nowadays.

I am passionate about colour so use natural pigments mixed with binders including hide glue, gesso, beeswax glazes and oil. I love people, flowers, interiors, pattern, textiles, oriental rugs and often combine them in fanciful flights of fancy to create a stage where the exquisite world of colour is paramount. I often use stitch, stick and ink; working quickly and intuitively to capture the natural rhythm of the subject matter and then apply the paint, layering, glazing until it's saturated with enough colour to give it a life of it's own.

I exhibit at Open Studios at Coburg House in August and December, and at galleries in and around Edinburgh.
